The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, today inaugurated 500 new Officers and new Headquarters for the State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps
The Passing Out Ceremony of the new officers which was part of the activities marking the first 100 days of his second term took place at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade, Igbatoro Road, Akure.
While congratulating the Passing out officers, being the second batch, the Governor commended the leadership of Amotekun Agency, and apprciated the DAWN Commission who code named the Corps “Amotekun”.
He said “we will leave no stone unturned as it is part of our redeemed agenda”.
Akeredolu enjoined the citizens of Ondo State to corporate with the corps to maintain its impressive performance.
He further stated that peace cannot be achieved without the corporation of other sisters security and promised to provide adequate leadership which is a constitutional duty.
The Governor also commissioned 20 new patrol vehicles to boost the operations of the state security network.
He also appreciated members of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, for their legislative support in making Amotekun Corps a reality and traditional rulers for their immense cooperation.
Akeredolu said, “It has further reinforced our long time view that State and community-based policing is the panacea to the country’s security challenges.
“Let me reassure the good people of Ondo State that our administration will leave no stone unturned as far as the implementation of our REDEEMED Agenda is concerned.
“The sixth goal of the Agenda which is “Maintenance of Law and Order for Adequate Security” is the reason why we are here today. I enjoin all the good people of Ondo State to lend your cooperation in terms of providing credible intelligence and financial support towards the success of this initiative.
“Today’s event is one of the milestones recorded by our administration in our attempt to redeem Ondo State from the shackles of poverty, disease, and underdevelopment. These cannot be achieved without a sense of safety and peace,” Governor Akeredolu said.
He commended the commander of the Security Agency, Chief Adetunji Adeleye for the brilliant work put into the roadmap, promising that he will always provide the right leadership for the Agency to flourish.
Governor Akeredolu appreciated members of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, for their tireless legislative support in making Amotekun a reality.
He also thanked the traditional rulers for their immense support and cooperation and the leadership of all the security agencies in the state for their cooperation in tackling security challenges.
In a remark, the Commander of Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, in his welcome address, appreciated the unflinching support and commitment, building a permanent site commissioning of 20 new patrol vehicles.
He also pleaded for a permanent training ground for Amotekun in order not to intrude the privacy of the people.
The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, stated that the state government is not fighting individuals with Amotekun but criminals.
The monarch who is also the Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas, also advised Chief Adeleye to stand firm and put his best, adding that the second term of Governor Akeredolu’s second term is an unusual transformation.
