Lagos LG polls: APC Group demands probe of Faleke’s anointed-Aspirant for alleged Certificate scandal

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Lagos State is being pressurised to probe its chairmanship aspirant, Alhaja Kafayat Layeni for allegedly presenting a fake West African Examination Council, WAEC, certificate for the party’s local government primaries.

A group within the party, The Progressive Grand Alliance in a press statement signed by its spokeman, Comrade Lanre Adaramola, noted that the leadership of the party should ensure the prosecution of the aspirant to purge the party of unscrupulous individuals in the party with a view to preventing recurrence of such act and protecting the image of the party.

Alhaja Kafayat Layeni, one of the aspirants who contested in the last Ojodu LCDA APC chairmanship Primary Election, was accused of presenting a fake WAEC O’Level certificate.

She and her campaign organization were said to have earlier debunked the allegations, claiming that there was no substantial evidence to back the claim.

However the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had clarified issues relating to the authenticity of the WAEC result submitted by Alhaja Kafayat Layeni in the just concluded primary election.

Alhaja Kafayat Layeni who was allegedly sponsored by her political leader and member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke was initially reported to have presented a fake of December 1979 WAEC result which she had submitted to the electoral body.

In the result, she purportedly claimed to have made C6 in English Language, C5 in Government, C4 in Economics, C4 in Mathematics, D7 in Biology, C5 in Commerce, and C3 in Accounts.

The controversies generated over the authenticity of her result led to an inquiry by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex Lagos, ACP Abayomi Abana who revealed that the examination body stated that the result being paraded by Alhaja Kafayat Layeni did not emanate from it.

According to the National Examination Body,”…Upon receipt of your request on the subject matter, the council examined its records to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the certificate, as attached.

However, it was found that there is no record to show that LAYENI OLUFUNMILAYO KAFAYAT, as described on the certificate; sat for the general examination in December 1979.”

“We are, therefore, unable to confirm the authenticity of the said result and /or certificate.”

This latest news has generated more reactions from the people who have become more skeptical about the legibility of Alhaja Kafayat Layeni.

A group, The Progressive Grand Alliance, has therefore urged the All Progressive Congress leadership to dutifully investigate this abnormality as it is a clear attempt to manipulate the system.

The group through its spokesperson, Comrade Lanre Adaramola stated that Alhaja Kafayat Layeni has intentionally committed a fraud and has violated the trust of the people.

In his words, “we will set a bad precedent if we allow Alhaja Kafayat Layeni go scot free even in the face of overwhelming evidence against her.

APC is noted for its integrity and core morals, it must ensure that these values are protected”.
