In an effort to give full support to giant strides of the institution’s management, the Alumni Association, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, in a bid to give back to its alma mater, has inaugurated a huge signage erected at the Polytechnic second gate.
The National President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Femi Ehinola, while speaking during the commissioning on Friday, 25th June, 2021, said it became necessary to erect the signage to make Rugipo as a citadel of learning unique among its contemporaries.
A statement by S.O. Ojo (JP), Director, Public Relations and Protocol quotes the President to have said that with the signage in place, the existence of the polytechnic is more pronounced to passers-by and enhances the public image of the Institution.
He disclosed that the four million (N4,000,000.00) naira signage project was one of the many projects lined up for execution by the Alumni Association. According to him, the Alumni Association is set to renovate a multipurpose hall within the polytechnic in the next few months.
While thanking all members of the Association for their support and cooperation, he called on all well-to-do members of the Association to strive to give back to the Institution in every way possible.
Mr. Ehinola also appreciated the Management for its support to the Association and for offering a purposeful leadership .
Speaking during the commissioning, the Chairman of the Commissioning Committee, Engr. Dayo Akindoju, a senior member of the Abuja Chapter of the Association, who was represented by the Chairman, Board of Trustee of the RUGIPO Alumni Association, Prof. Isaac Babatunde Oluwalana, thanked the Executives of the Association for the project, which he described as monumental.
Prof. Oluwalana, who described it as a special grace to witness the feat as a member of the first set of graduates of the Institution, commended the Federal government scrapping of the dichotomy between HND and BSc holders.
In his address, the Rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Mr. Gani Adebola Ogundahunsi, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Admin and Development), Engr. (Dr.) Samuel Alagha, also commended the Alumni for the lofty idea of constructing the signage and for organising the sporting activities, considering the position of sports in human and socio-economic development of our youths.
While unveiling the plaque during the commissioning, Prof. Oluwalana said he believed that the structure would further edify the Polytechnic as passers-by cannot overlook it.
