……. He is suffering from hang-over of defeat.
Following the defection of Dennis Alonge-Niyi and other political bigwigs from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the main opposition party has declared that it will not miss him due to his antecedent of engaging in anti-party activities since 2020.
This is contained in a press statement issued by Hon Kennedy Ikantu Peretei State Publicity Secretary, Ondo PDP and made available to SUNSHINETRUTH on 24th July, 2021 in Akure.
Ondo PDP said, “the supposed defection of Dennis Alonge-Niyi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is unworthy of a response, but for the need to straighten the record.
“Recall that the last PDP State Congress was held on 4th August, 2020 in which Dennis Alonge-Niyi participated seeking the office of State Chairman. Based on his antecedents in the party, he was roundly defeated at the Congress.
“He scored 348 votes as against 1,341 scored by Alhaji Fatai Adams. Even though, he openly embraced the winner, his utterances and activities since then, portrayed him as a mole in the party.
“During the October 10, 2020 Governorship Elections, Alonge-Niyi shamelessly worked for the APC’s Governorship Candidate. As a matter of fact, the logistics support for the elections was coordinated for the APC from his house.
“It is not only ridiculous and laughable for such a character to say he is defecting from the PDP, when indeed, he has been working with the APC all along. Such behaviour smacks of a person lacking in integrity and honesty. As far as the PDP is concerned, Dennis Alonge-Niyi had exited the party since 2020 on the strength of his anti-party activities.
“It is apparent that, he still suffers from the hang-over of his miserable loss during the State Congress. His remarks on the leadership of the party in the States are comments from a frustrated person. Our party wishes him the very best of luck, as he begins his journey to political obscurity and oblivion,” Peretei concluded.
SENATOR YELE OMOGUNWA, DR OLATUNJI FEDA, OTHERS DUMP APC, AA FOR PDP
The Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the eighth Assembly, and the Senatorial Candidate of the APC during the 2019 General election, Pastor Yele Omogunwa together with the Ondo South Senatorial Candidate of the AA during the 2019 general election, Dr Olatunji Feda on Thursday 22nd July, 2021 officially declared their defection from the APC and the AA to the PDP.
They made the declaration at the Stakeholders’ meeting of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.
A press statement signed by Leye Igbabo of the state PDP Directorate of Media and Publicity indicates that while introducing them to the highly elated leaders at the State Secretariat of the party in Akure, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Fatai Adams told leaders that the coming back of the distinguished senator was the handiwork of God and a sign of victory for the party.
Adams also said Dr Olatunji Feda since his majestic return to the party, has proved his worth and left no one in doubt, as to his determination to strengthen the party in all ways.
The State Chairman therefore enjoined leaders and members of the party to give them their due recognition as full members of the party. Senator Omogunwa while addressing the leaders of the party at the meeting, said what he did was to simply retrace his step to his source.
“Nobody actually pressurized me to come back to the party. I only realized that I had gone on a wrong voyage and needed to retrace my steps. I took a defective flight that landed me in the wilderness but I have taken a better flight now and I have arrived safely to the party.”
“I need to let you know that I have not come to pursue any personal ambition here. I have only come back to my source. I thank leaders who have been holding the party together. No doubt, PDP is faring good and great but we also intend to make it fare better and greater.”
“Although I am not a prophet, I am a pastor. I see hope in the PDP’s struggle and I don’t doubt the victory of the party at the Supreme Court. I am here to add value to the party and I brought some of my coordinators here. We have started the work, there is no going back,” Senator Omogunwa declared.
In the same vein, Dr Olatunji Feda who also contested with Senator Yele Omogunwa for the Southern Senatorial seat during the 2019 general election under the platform of AA, said his decision to join PDP was borne out of concern for the good of the people.
Olatunji Feda said PDP has always been touching lives of the people with far-reaching, innovative programmes and would love to be in a party that makes the interest of the people, its top priority.
Leaders of the party had earlier described Senator Yele Omogunwa as an offspring of the men of Issachar who knew the time and the season to operate, describing his presence in the party as a confirmation of success for PDP in the months ahead.
The party leaders specially welcomed the duo back to the party and assured them of their support at all times.
