Ondo NUJ congratulates Akeredolu, Aiyedatiwa, begs FG for Salary Bailout

THE COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ), ONDO STATE COUNCIL, HELD ON THURSDAY 29TH JULY, 2021 AT THE PRESS CENTRE, PEN CRESCENT, ALAGBAKA-AKURE

After extensive deliberations by members, the following decisions were taken:

  1. That as Our Union’s Grand Patron, Ondo NUJ congratulates the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and his  Deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa on their victory at the Supreme Court, urging them to maintain the giant strides of the present administration now that all legal encumbrances facing them since last year had finally been laid to rest.
  2. That while enjoining members to go for regular medical check-up, the Congress expresses joy at efforts of the Executives to resuscitate & make the NUJ Press Centre Clinic functional again as from August, 2021 to enable members take good care of their health.
  3. That the Congress lauds the current leadership of Ondo NUJ for its various welfare packages for members, encourages the Executives to sustain same.
  4. That the Congress commends the Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi Ogunlade for sponsoring and attending this month’s Ondo NUJ Jazz Night held at the Press Centre. Oba Aladetoyinbo who is also one of the Union’s Royal Patrons, also rewarded two best dancers (Omobomi Oguntolu & Ayoola Fatokun) at the Jazz Night with a cash of #20,000.
  5. That while lamenting economic hardship arising from high cost of essential commodities in the country and irregular payment of salaries of most state and local government workers, the NUJ Congress appeals to the Federal Government to come up with fresh Bailout for State Governments nationwide including Ondo State Government to enable them clear accumulating salary arrears if the workers.
  6. That while commending efforts of Amotekun Corps and other Security operatives at reducing crimes in Ondo State, the Union frowns at the recent incessant bank robberies parts of the state which one of such claimed lives of three young men including a journalist, Olubunmi Afuye recently. The NUJ Members at the Congress who observed A MINUTE SILENCE in honour of Olubunmi, call on government, Nigeria Police and other security agencies to step up their games and address this menace.
  7. That the Union charges the Ondo state government to find lasting solutions to Waste management in the state especially Akure metropolis.
