Ward Congresses: Anger as Ondo Leaders drag APC to Court

Members and Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo state who are not satisfied with the outcome of the last ward Congresses in Ifedore local government area have dragged the party and its Executives to   the Federal High Court to challenge the outcome of the Congresses.

The suit which was filed yesterday Monday 9th August, 2021, has the APC, the National Caretaker Chairman of the party, the State Caretaker Chairman, Ward congress chairman, Gnoyega Isiaka and INEC as defendants while Claimants in the suit, Mr. Segun Boboyi and Hon Idowu Adebusuyi.

The aggrieved members are asking the Court to set aside all and nullify actions and decisions taken by the leadership of the party in the purported ward Congresses held on Saturday, 31st July ,2021 in Ifedore local government area.

The leaders threatened that if pushed away by the party, APC might not win any election in Ifedore local government in future elections.

Speaking on behalf of the APC leaders in Ifedore Local Government area, a former Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Idowu Pius Adebusuyi told newsmen in Akure, the state capital that the leaders and members would be approaching court to seek redress over the ward congress.

Adebusuyi said “the Ondo State Caretaker committee failed to conduct any (ward) congress in Ifedore Local Government in Ondo State in accordance with the party’s constitution.

According to the leaders, “The Ondo State Caretaker Committee purportedly imposed the names of his loyalists on the members of the APC in Ifedore Local Government in Ondo State in flagrant to the lay down constitution of the party.

Adebusuyi, who is also a former Ifedore local government Chairman, alleged that the state chairman of the party, Engr Ade Adetimehin had frustrated efforts made by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and other leaders of the party to address their grievances.

“The purported nomination of members of the party in Ifedore Local‘ Government of Ondo State to represent the local government is unknown to the constitution of the party.

“Failure to conduct the ward congress in Ifedore Local Government of Ondo State in accordance with the APC’s Constitution is a flagrant violation of ‘the rights of the members of the party in the local government.

“The members of the party in the local government were denied their constitutional rights to exercise their franchise in accordance with the law.

“That there is no consensus or election in the purported ward congress conducted in Ifedore Local Government on 31St July, 2021 in accordance with the APC Constitution.

Reacting, a party leader and former Aide to Akeredolu, Tobi Ogunleye denied the leaders’ claims saying there was no crisis in the party in Ifedore.

Ogunleye who said the aggrieved members who go to court should be mindful of the provision of the constitution of the party.
