As fresh admission process for new academic session begins, Millennium College of Health Technology, Akure, has received a team of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) who visited the College for re-accreditation of the School of Pharmacy Technician.

The team was led by Mrs Funmilayo Awoyemi. Receiving the team in company of other principal officers and top management of the College, the Provost, Millennium College of Health Technology, Mrs Adinlewa Ayodele, appreciated the team leader and other members for their passion and commitment to the development of the health institution.

She explained the College has what it takes for the re-accreditation of the School of Pharmacy Technician in terms of necessary facilities and manpower needed for the exercise.

The Provost added that the institution has a well-equipped and state-of-the-art laboratory, e-Library, additional classrooms, adequate human resources, drugs and re-agents, among others.

Mrs Ayodele expressed confidence that at the end of the exercise the School would be re-accredited and get the nod to continue training the cadre of health professionals.

She said as a private health institution, the College would continue to play a leading role in the training of middle level health professionals in the country.

While noting that the institution has always striven to comply with the minimum requirements of Regulatory Bodies, Mrs Ayodele assured that the College would not rest on its oars in creating a sustainable and 21st Century environment for conducive training.

“Our mission is to develop and improve public health service nationwide and beyond through the pursuit of excellence in manpower training, research and effective service delivery.

“The Pharmacy profession remains one of the most respected in the health care delivery system of any nation. Apart from preparing the drugs which are prescribed, by a general practitioner or other professionals, they also assess the suitability of the medication for a particular patient, taking into account their medical history, as well as possible side effects and interactions with other drugs that are being used .

“Pharmacy Technicians are critical members of this health care team, and therefore,، their roles cannot be overemphasised in health care delivery in Nigeria, and all over the world.

“As a community of ” one striving for excellence “, we believe that continuous evaluation of our programmes is necessary, if we are to maintain progress towards the standard of excellence that we want our students to achieve. We therefore are appreciative of this re-accreditation process”, the Provost stressed.

Mrs Ayodele who recalled that the first accreditation of the School of Pharmacy Technician was done in 2016, also revealed that since then a total of 64 students have been successfully graduated from the department while the present total of students in the department stands at 107.

She also announced that 2021/2022 admission exercise into various courses is still ongoing and called on parents and guardians to take the opportunity and give their children quality education in the leading health institution, saying all the courses being run by the College are fully accredited.

She listed the courses to include, HND in Environmental Health Technology, HND in Health Information Management, HND in Dental Therapy, Community Health, Medical Lab, Biomedical Engineering, Dispensing Opticianry, X-ray Technician, Community Health Extension Worker, Health Assistant among others.
