To mark this year’s Public Service Week Anniversary, a 2-day program has been lined up for the celebration with the theme: “Deploying Technology to Sustain and enhance Service Delivery in the face of challenging Covid-19 Pandemic Climate,”
The head of service of Ondo State, Pastor Niran Adeyemo, while addressing journalists in Akure, stated that Tuesday, 24th, August, 2021, the Head of the service, Mr Niran Adeyemo would interface with a cross section of the service at Adegbemile Cultural Center.
Adeyemo said, “the meeting is segmented into two: Officers on grade level 12 and above as first batch, while officers on grade 10 and below would take their turn. The meetings will offer an opportunity for the rank and file to ask questions and make contributions on how to improve on the State Bureaucracy.
“I consider this very germane because no lasting improvement on any system can be achieved if the operators sings discordant tones. I intend to deploy the platform to further secure the buy-in of Public Servants on the need to improve on service delivery and improved ethical values, beginning with a change in attitude anf orientation”.
The HoS further stated that another leg of this year’s celebration is the Public Service Lecture slated for Wednesday, 25th, August, 2021, the lecture, reflecting the theme of the anniversary will be a moment of intellectual engagement and mind-rubbing by the Public Servants boasts of eminently qualified professionals across various disciplines who are capable of disserting topical issues.
According to him, the celebration is a yearly event, unanimously agreed to by all African Union States, began in Morocco in 1994. The Tangier Declaration in Morocco that year has since given birth to what has come to be known as the yearly African Public Service Week. The focus of the celebration is to acknowledge and commemorate the prime place of Public Service in the development of African States.
The Public Service Day gives the career officers whose roles are otherwise mistakenly taken as of a great deal less in importance.
His words “you will recall the charge of Me. Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN and my pledge during my inauguration that the Service must reposition itself for better service delivery in no better time than now.
“The Government is not only living true to its promises, delivering massive infrastructural transformation in road expansion and rehabilitation across the books and crannies of the state; embarking on agricultural revolution and rural development, empowering the people through micro-credit supports; improving revenue generation, it has also made the issue of workers’ welfare a priority”.
“The Public Service have the obligation to show understanding and demonstrate industry and dedication to the worker-friendly administration of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN. The government is transparent and welfare-focused. I call on our workers to eschew unprofessional practices and to give their best on their beats.
He stated that 6,106 staff has been promoted, 18 civil engineers has been employed, 1,200 primary school teachers were recruited, inducted, trained and has been posted to all the 18 local governments of the state, 625 personnels has also been employed to the primary health care and have been moving to their various posts.
The Head of the Covid-19 team, Prof. Segun Fatusi while lamenting that the people of Ondo State are not observing the covid-19 protocols advised Ondo workers to continue observe the Covid-19 protocols as that is the only way we can help ourselves, adding that the last 24 hours report from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) talked about 35 new cases in Ondo State, 7 people in isolation , there has been 70 deaths and 28 other cause are being notified.
He futher stressed that lockdown is a double edged sword for developing countries as the massive economic implications is significance.
“Taking the 2 doses of the covid-19 vaccine doesn’t guarantee that you will not have the disease, it only guarantees that you will not get the severe form or death. Covid-19 is still around in a deadlier form.
