On the heels of promoting good public health and hygiene, the Ondo state government through Environmental Sanitation officials from Akoko North West Local Area, have issued stern warnings to butchers in the area to avoid selling contaminated meat to the people.
The officials who were tipped off by some residents of Ajowa Akoko on Thursday, halted the sale of meat from a cow that reportedly died of poisoning to unsuspecting citizens.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Director Environmental Service, Yemisi Adeniyi, said the dead cow was not fit for human consumption, based on the circumstances of its death.
She also warned butchers to desist from the unwholesome acts, adding that the contaminated cow could cause damaging injuries to human health.
Mrs. Adeniyi also declared that the timely intervention of her office led to the retrieval of the dead animal and its hygienic disposal, without causing any breach of public order.
It would be recalled that some meat merchants in Ikare-Akoko were remanded at a Correctional Service facility last year for selling beef from contaminated cows.
Residents who spoke with SUNSHINETRUTH urged government to still track down other contaminated cows from herders in the area who are fond of selling such meat to avert epidemic.
