Press Release
INCITEMENT OF RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE OCCASIONING SACRILEGIOUS AND ILL-BEFITTING PICTURE OF THE MUSLIM FAITH BY VETERAN YORUBA ACTOR ODUNLADE ADEKOLA
The Attention of Ta’awunu Human Rights of Nigeria has been drawn to Malicious Yoruba Home Video which is believed to have been produced by a veteran Yoruba Actor, Odunlade Adekola which for all intent and purposes is believed to be an attempt to puncture the Islamic practice of Women in veil.
THURIST had discovered that in the viral home video titled ‘IKU NI’ in which a woman in veil boarded a commercial Bus claiming to be heading to a destination he referred to as ‘Iyanna Orun’ which is attempted at making jest of the veil women for the fact that there is no destination known as ‘Iyanna Orun’ anywhere in Nigeria.
As if that is not enough, the movie producer went further to portray the woman in veil in the said video as a mad person which attempt to assassinate the sanctity of Women in veil as a practice in the Islamic precept.
The Religious intolerance in the said video reached it’s highest ebb, when the producer scripted and acted the woman in veil holding a matchet and attempting a matcheting of people who come her way.
It is in view of this that THURIST called on the Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and Mr. Odunlade Adekola seeking the following reliefs with immediate effect:
- Stopping any further production of the said Video titled ‘IKU NI’ and expunging same from other viewing platform including YouTube within 7days
- Sanctioning the Movie Producer Odunlade Adekola in accordance with the provision of the rules and regulation of TAMPAN.
- Censoring all members and producers of home video from further production of movies of this nature
- The movie producer should be mandated to issue a letter of apology to the Muslim community for such production through a publication that will be widely seen by all and sundry stating that reliefs sought in paragraph 1 has been met within 7days.
TAKE NOTICE that failure to comply with the reliefs sought, we shall be oblige to proceed on a serious legal action against the Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and Mr. Odunlade Adekola to get these reliefs Judiciously.
