FRSC Official shot dead in Ondo, as Gunmen kidnap Reverend Father

Suspected gunmen have reportedly shot dead one Mr Omiwoye Sunday, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attached to Ondo .

The Hope Metro gathered that the deceased was killed by the bandits in front of his friend’s house, while trying to prevent them from attacking some people.

The incident occurred on Sunday night along Agbala area behind Saint Monica’s Girl Grammar School, in Ondo.

Eyewitnesses said the deceased went with his wife to see his friend and while trying to park his motorcycle by the gate, some people ran towards them to seek refuge from the bandits, who were beating them.

He wax said to have challenged the gunmen who opened fire on him and he died instantly.

Narrating the incident, wife of the deceased, Mrs Bunmi Sunday, said,” My husband and I went to see one of his friends that stays on the same street with us. Suddenly, some men ran towards where we were standing by the gate.

“My husband was trying to park his motorcycle then. So, two gunmen came with bike and started beating the boys that ran to us.

“My husband challenged them. But they told him that they were not there for him and that he should go inside the gate. I went in immediately, but my husband was still outside standing by his motorcycle.

“Later, we heard a gun shot. So, I ran out of the gate and saw my husband on the floor in a pool of his own blood. The gunmen ran away with his phone and motorcycle key.”

Also, some of his colleagues lamented over the death of Mr Sunday and series of robbery incidents that usually occur on that road.

Speaking, some of the residents complained that the street is no longer safe for them, stressing that bloodthirsty men have been on a rampage in the area , especially towards this Yuletide period.

According to them, some of the landlords have packed out of their houses due to the robbery attacks and other criminal acts committed by the unidentified gunmen.

The said, “These faceless human beings have been attacking innocent people in this place and carted away their valuable items.”

They described the deceased as a gentle, caring and easy-going man, who was promoted recently as a result of his dedication to work.

The corpse has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ondo for autopsy.

All efforts to speak with The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, proved abortive as she did not pick her calls as at the time of filling this report.

REVEREND FATHER KIDNAPPED IN ONDO

Some unknown gunmen who are suspected kidnappers have abducted Rev. Fr. Joseph Ajayi, the parish priest of St. Peter Clavar, Ilara Mokin, in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that Rev. Fr. Ajayi was kidnapped along the Akure-Ikere expressway in Ondo State, on Monday.

According to The Nigerian Monitor, the abduction of the clergyman was confirmed on Tuesday evening by the Catholic Diocese of Ondo.

Rev. Fr. Victor Ibiyemi who confirmed the abduction of Rev. Fr. Ajayi, one of the priests in the Diocese to newsmen, said he was kidnapped by some unknown gunmen.

It was further learnt that the incident happened while the priest was travelling in his Toyota Corolla car, on Monday.

A source revealed that the cleric was traveling to Akure, the Ondo State capital from Ikere, Ekiti State, when the hoodlums struck and whisked him away.

The Secretary to the Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Jude Arogundade, Rev. Fr. Victor Ibiyemi, who confirmed the incident said the abductors had contacted the church, demanding a sum of N20million ransom.

According to him: “We have been on it since morning. They have contacted the church, demanding N20million.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo State Command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, was not available for comment on the development as at press time, as calls made to her phone were ringing out without being picked.
