YULETIDE: AJAKA URGES STRICT ADHERENCE TO COVID-19 PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

As Christians in Ondo State join their counterparts worldwide to celebrate this year’s Christmas and New Year, they have been urged to remember to observe all the COVID-19 precautionary measures.

Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka gave the charge in his season’s greetings to christian faithful in the state.

Ajaka noted that since the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 pandemic has now become a global health threat,ravaging no fewer than 89 countries of the world, Nigeria inclusive, there is the crucial need for Christians in Ondo State to continually adhere strictly to all the safety protocols against COVID-19 as spelt out by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) during this yuletide.

“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we should be conscious of the stark reality of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 presently ravaging no fewer than 89 countries of the world, Nigeria inclusive.

“Therefore, in our various religious and social gatherings,we should endeavour to observe all the precautionary measures against COVID-19”, Ajaka said.

Ajaka also implored all residents of the state who are yet to take their COVID-19 vaccination to immediately visit the nearest vaccination centre and take their vaccination while charging those that are yet to take their second dose of the vaccination to immediately go for it.

He described vaccination as the most reliable and dependable preventive method against the pandemic when taken alongside the observance of other precautionary measures.

The Commissioner charged individuals to ensure regular hand washing, use their nose masks, avoid clustering in crowded environments and refrain from embarking on unnecessary journeys.

He equally urged anybody who experiences any symptom of COVID-19 to immediately report at the nearest health facility for prompt medical attention.

While reiterating the unwavering commitment of the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN -led administration in Ondo State to prioritizing the health and general welfare of the people of the state, Ajaka wished all Christians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
