Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi’s lawyer has reacted to the statement credited to one DG Opomulero, Olasupo Olakunori Elerewe in an online news over the release of the former Owo Local Government Chairman from police custody consequent upon police investigation into the murder of late Tunde Ilori Elerewe who was shot and killed about two weeks ago by yet to be identified gunmen.
The aforesaid DG Opomulero, Olasupo Olakunori who claimed to be younger blood brother to the deceased person has alleged that some heartless politicians are politicizing police
investigation into murder of late Tunde Ilori Elerewe. He (Olasupo Olakunori) claimed that Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi was released after the police had conducted search on Oluwole Folahanmi’s house in Owo while other arrested persons are still in police custody.
In his reaction to the allegation, Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq. who is the current Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Owo Branch posited that the police exercise their discretionary powers in favour of the former Local Government Chairman when it was
revealed from preliminary police investigation that Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi is not involved
in any complicity as per the murder case.
It is pertinent to state that you don’t ground indictment of anybody in criminal investigation based on mere suspicion. The former Local
Government boss’s lawyer stressed further that Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi cannot be indicted over the murder of late Tunde Ilori Elerewe just because he (Oluwole Folahanmi) contested
Elerewe Chieftaincy title against the deceased person eleven(11) years ago.
The NBA, Owo Branch Chairman equally stated emphatically without any equivocation that the late Chief Elerewe had land dispute with a family from Iloro Quarter of Owo and it was the scene of the land dispute that the parties visited as directed by the Traditional Arbitration mediating over the land dispute between the late Chief Tunde Ilori Elerewe and the other family. It was on their way back from the scene of the land dispute that the late Chief was shot and killed by yet to be identified gunmen.
Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq. emphasized that Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi has no interest in the
land in dispute and he (Oluwole Folahanmi) is not in anyway connected with the land in dispute. He stressed further that he (Oluwole Folahanmi) has accepted fate upon the illegal installation of the late Tunde Ilori as the Elerewe of Owo Kingdom by the late Olowo of Owo (Oba) Dr. D.V.F. Olateru Olagbegi III over fiver years ago even when there was a pending litigation in court of competent jurisdiction over the Elerewe Chieftaincy tussle.
Oluwole Folahanmi believed in rule of law and not jungle justice, he has kept faith in the judicial process of correcting the wrong and injustice against him.
The lawyer speaking further said Oluwole Folahanmi has no reason to be involved in the killing of anybody over any subject matter talk less of killing a cousin over chieftaincy
installation that has been done over five years ago.
He (Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq.) stated categorically that there’s no nexus between Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi and the crime, hence the police has no reason detaining him any further upon preliminary investigation.
Olatunbosun Aganun, Esq. concluded by stating that the assertion of the said DG Opomulero, Olasupo Olakunori to the effect that Hon. Oluwole Folahanmi is a principal
suspect in the case is a figment of Olasupo Olakunori’s imagination and that the allegation is baseless, fictitious and vexatious with no substance in any form.
