PRESS RELEASE

REJOINDER

The attention of the Ondo State Police Command has been drawn to a false publication that emanated from a questionable source, with the heading “Gunmen Kidnap Couple in Ondo, Husband found dead”, on Tuesday 8th February, 2022.

The Command is using this medium to inform the public to disregard this information as nothing of such ever happened in the State, as the story is false and from a faceless being who claimed to be a journalist.

The Command wishes to state clearly that at about 0845hrs, a good Samaritan who saw a lifeless body around sharp sand area, Odole in Akure, called the DPO of ‘B’ Division Akure to inform him of the incident. When the Police arrived the scene; a mobile phone was found in the pocket of the deceased and was used to call his wife.

According to Mrs Comfort Oni, the wife of the deceased, her husband Mr. Michael Oni of about 70 years old lived in Ilesha garage area of Akure and worked as a security guard at Ambassadors House, and that he left home in the morning and she later heard that someone was involved in accident and has been rushed to the hospital.

She was however surprised when she received a call from the Police that her husband was found dead by the road side, she suspected that her husband died on the way to the Hospital and out of fear, the driver dropped him off.

In view of this, the Police Command is miffed at the false publication emanating from faceless journalists who takes pleasure in peddling fake news

Members of the public are enjoined to disregard this news as it is nothing short of fake news being propaganded by amateurs who parade themselves as news men whose intention is to create unnecessary fear in the mind of the people and to stir undue tension in the State.

The Commissioner of Police CP Oyeyemi Oyediran, psc, fsi on behalf of the Command sympathizes with the family of the deceased and prays for the repose of his soul while warning against fabrications and spread of fake news from any quarters; source(s) of information especially the ones found on social media should be verified before sharing/spreading as the command will not fold its hand and allow such negativity to fester in the State.
