The National Executive Committee of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has taken a decision during its two-day meeting at the University of Lagos, Akoka, to proceed on a month warning strike.
SUNSHINETRUTH reports that the strike takes effect from Monday, February 14, 2022.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said the strike was against their wish but they had to put the interest of the union first.
He said, ”I announce to you with a heavy heart the commencement of a nationwide strike starting from 14th February till our needs are met.”
The union had expressed grievances over the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill some of the agreements it made as far back as 2009.
Proposed ASUU strike: Students know fate on Monday as NEC meeting continues
Another report says University students across Nigeria will know their fate regarding the proposed strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
DAILY POST gathered that as of Sunday evening, the meeting called by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union which commenced on Saturday, was still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
It was also gathered that no decision has been reached on whether to proceed on the strike or not.
The meeting of the NEC of ASUU is currently being held at the F. Ade Ajayi Main Auditorium of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka.
There are clear indications that the crucial meeting may go on into the night today, while a media conference expected to be addressed by ASUU’s National President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke is scheduled for Monday, 14 February.
