Reps member BTO bags ‘Man of the Year Award’, justifies call for Police station at Akunnu Akoko

Why I’m Facilitating A Police Station in Akunnu Akoko — Tunji-Ojo

The Lawmaker representing Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency, Honourable Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has explained why he has moved for the establishment of a Divisional Police Station in Akunnu Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This is coming barely two weeks after the House passed a resolution mandating the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba to establish a Divisional Police Station in Akunnu Akoko, sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Chairman, House Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Tunji-Ojo who threw more light on the motion while receiving “Man of the Year Award by the Nigeria Assembly News” in Abuja on Tuesday decried the spate of kidnapping in the two local government areas within his Federal Constituency.

He explained, “My Constituency is one which is like a Gateway Constituency, we border about two different geopolitical zones like Edo State in the South-south and Kogi State in the North Central. we also share border with Ekiti State.

“We have six communities in Isowopo. We have Ugbe, Akunnu, Auga, Ikakumo, Ise and Iboropa Akoko.

“When you look at the level of insecurity in Ondo State, I can say 60% of these incidents usually happened in this axis.

“In the whole of Akoko North East, there’s only one divisional police station which is at the extreme end when you are entering the local government at the border with Akungba Akoko which is Akoko South West.

“This reality has made policing difficult in the region. It has gotten so bad that the community youths have been forced to put their destiny into their hands, they now perform the roles of security operatives by acting as vigilantes just to secure their people.”

The legislator explained that with the creation of a new divisional police station in Akunnu-Akoko, the area will be more secured and this will pave the way for more development in the region.

Furthermore he explained that while the State Government has done a lot in terms of curbing insecurity in the state especially with the creation of the regional security network, Amotekun, there’s a need to compliment the efforts of the state government at the federal level.

While presenting the award, the publisher Mr Adeboye Omoboye said the lawmaker’s readiness to receive people even beyond his constituency has earned him the award.

He further described Tunji-Ojo as a man with “magic hand.”

“Within the National Assembly, we call him the man with the magic hand. No member of the National Assembly welcomes people than him. You don’t have to come from his constituency before he accommodates you.”

“He has used his two and half years as a lawmaker to better the lots of his people.”
