The Ondo State beneficiaries of Federal Government Covid 19 Cash transfer initiative has started receiving 30,000n credit to help them cushion the effect of covid 19 as many people and businesses are yet to get over it’s negative impact.
Confirming this, the State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU) Coordinator Olaoluwa Bankole Esq., said the pandemic made a lot of people poor and poor people were made poorer.
He said the National Social Safety-net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development came up with this initiative to empower low income earners, low daily wagers and small business owners that have been affected by Covid 19.
According to the State Coordinator, the beneficiaries are those that registered during the first wave of the Rapid Response Register (RRR) exercise that took place last year, although some of them received payments but the rest have now been considered for payment.
Speaking further, he made it clear that 30,213 people that registered during the recently concluded second wave are being validated as at the time of this report, and once validation is completed for all payment process will commence.
Corroborating this, the SOCU Head of Operations Sesan Kumuyi who appreciated the State government for its support affirmed that people being paid cut across the three geo-political zones in the state. He encouraged the people across all Local Governments to keep their ears to the ground and take advantage of the opportunity in subsequent waves as the Register has become part of the Database that may be put to various beneficial use in the future.
Mrs Olokuntoye Ayoola, a widow from Iyere Owo could not hide her joy and was full of appreciation as she said the money actually met her needs as she visited ogbese market to purchase foodstuffs and other needs. Some other beneficiaries like Mr Iluyemi Bankole from Okitipupa and Mrs Adeyemi from igbatoro equally expressed gratitude to the government for this gesture and confirmed that this has indeed put to rest their fears and doubts during the registration exercise.
