ONDO ASSURES WORKERS OF NO RETRENCHMENT PLAN
…set to promote over 5500 civil servants
Ondo state government has said there are no plans to retrench public servants in the State, just as it is presently considering the promotion of 3400 senior civil servants in the State.
The Head of Service, Pastor Adeniran Adeyemo,MNI, stated this today while addressing workers at the commencement of the year 2022 promotion exercise of the Senior Management Committee, organised by the Office of the Head of Service.
Pastor Adeyemo who urged the civil servants to be diligent, steadfast and committed to their duties, maintained that promotion is an appointment and is necessary to enable workers improve on their jobs.
He explained that the government has concluded plans to organise trainings for civil servants, believing such will enable them to give their best,for the betterment of the society.
He stated that the statutory exercise is very important and remains another avenue to refresh and improve the capacity of participants.
Adeyemo promised the staff that their promotion letters would be ready by the end of the month. According to him , the Senior Management Committee is presently considering 3400 senior civil servants for promotion, while about 1500 civil servants were initially considered for promotion last month.
Corroborating his view, the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters Department, Mr Jimoh Afolabi said the Senior Management Committee is a seven-man panel made up of the Head of Service as the Chairman and other members of the Committee are the Permanent Secretaries, Office of Establishment and Trainings, Ministry of Finance, Civil Service Commission, Service Matters Department, Reform Office, Ministry of Justice and the most senior permanent secretary in the State.
He Stated that the Committee would examine the participants and would recommend those who are qualified for the consideration and approval of the Civil Service Commission.
In his opinion, the Ag. Permanent Secretary Civil Service Commission, Mr Wole Akinkuotu, noted that the weeklong exercise is part of the commitment of government to ensure civil servants get their promotions as and when due. He said the last phase of the exercise would be determined by the Civil Service Commission that appoints, promotes and dismisses officers in the Civil Service.
Akinkuotu said, so far there is available vacancies, officers who are eligible and have performed well during the promotion exercise would be promoted.
Responding,one the participants, Mr Lanre Amuda said the exercise is smooth and seamless. He noted that the interview was very thorough and the need to have additional qualifications in the service has been re-emphasised.
According to him, the interview is necessary to justify the promotion of the officers, whilst they hope to get their letters very soon in order to enjoy its financial benefits.
