“2023: Buhari’s comment on Successor is Essentialist Rudiments”

PRESIDENT BUHARI LIKE THE REST OF US HAS CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND CHOICE —KAYODE AJULO

President Buhari, as a Nigerian is entitled to his opinions and freedom of choice, which is constitutional.

Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution, Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) provides inter alia that “every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information without interference.

The President has the constitutional liberty of choice which is one of the most central human rights as it is connected to the essentialist rudiments of an individual’s freedom

I’m yet to see or hear of
a President, particularly one having a fix term who does not care about his successor or candidate. We all have.

Even a Monarch, who’s expected to rule for his entire life time and therefore not expected to see whether his Kingdom thrives after he’s gone or not, cares about who succeeds him.

President Buhari caring about who succeeds him is not a constitutional matter but a moral imperative that is subjective.
