Owo Tragedy: Akure Asiwaju Ndigbo leads Igbo to visit Scene, condoles Olowo

The Asiwaju Ndigbo of Akure Kingdom, Chief (Dr) Ezeorji Titus-Umenweke has condemned in strong terms, the gruesome killing of harmless worshipers by some unknown gunmen at Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa street, Owo, on Sunday.

Dr Umeweke made this condemnation during his visit to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III on Tuesday.

The Asiwaju Ndigbo who was in the palace to commiserate with the monarch described the attack and killing as an unimaginable inhuman act.

While praying that the perpetrators should not go unpunished, he charged the government and security agents to rise up to the occasion even as he called on concerned authorities and stakeholders to take the issue of security seriously.

The Asiwaju Ndigbo called on all Nigerians to be watchful and vigilant and give support in ensuring that lives and properties are safe.

Dr Umeweke also want all worship centers, markets and public places should be on the watch for new faces, suspicious movements and people should late night movements.

Responding, Oba Ogunoye thanked the Asiwaju Ndigbo for identifying with him and his people at this trying time.

The Olowo described the attack as an  attack on Nigerians since most of the victims are Igbos who have been living peacefully in the ancient town for long.

He however called on the federal government to take the issue of insecurity seriously while commending Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for spearheading the establishment of the Amotekun corps.

According to him, if not for the corps, the incident would have happened before this time.

The Asiwaju Ndigbo was accompanied on the visit by members of his council and other Igbo leaders in Ondo state.
