Owo massacre: Owa-Ale visits Olowo, suspends celebration of Ikare Festival

Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite-Adedoyin I I, The Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko visited Owo kingdom on 17th of June, 2022 to sympathize with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye families of those that lost their lives in recent massacre at Owo as well as the entire Sons and Daughters of Owo Kingdom.

Oba Adedoyin accompanied by some of his High Chiefs, prayed that God Almighty will punish the the perpetrators of the dastardly act, commending efforts of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in tackling insecurity through Amotekun Corps.

Oba Adeleke in solidarity with people of Owo Kingdom has announced the suspension of this year’s Annual New Yam Festival celebration that normally take place at AAfin Owa Ale Ikare as a mark of honour for the departed brothers and sisters as a result of the attacked.

New Yam Festival is one of the famous festivals in Ikare that is being celebrated every June 20 for over 600years by the people of the ancient town to honour huge contributions of farmers to humanity.

Oba Adedoyin noted that the decision to suspend the festival for the first time in centuries, was to solidarise and honour victims of the wicked attack in Owo and to consolidate brotherhood between Olowo and Owa-Ale who left Ile-Ife the same time according to history.

The monarch also prayed God to grant the departed souls eternal rest and also bestow peace and tranquility on Owo Kingdom.

Responding, the Olowo of Owo expressed appreciation to Ikare people and Owa-Ale for identifying with Owo people at this critical time.#
