Tragedy hits Ondo School, as Flood sweeps away Student

It was a tragic day at Ikare Akoko on Tuesday when a Junior Secondary School (JSS) student of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, Ikare- Akoko, was swept away by flood.

SUNSHINETRUTH gathered that the incident  occurred around River Dada, Semusemu area, along Arigidi road in  the ancient town.

The student, identified as Motunrayo John, was said to have fallen victim of the unfortunate incident Tuesday afternoon, shortly after leaving the school premises.

It was gathered that she was playing in the rain and was using her legs to measure the depth of the flood while going home, when she fell and got swept away.

An eyewitness account stated that the victim was taken off balance and before help could reach her, the flood had taken her away.

The witness disclosed that she was swept directly into the popular, but notorious River Dada.

Confirming the unfortunate incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ikare-Akoko Police Division, Superintendent of Police (SP) Olatujoye Akinwande, said the matter was reported by the Principal of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, Mrs Ajoke Asiwaju.

The DPO revealed that search and rescue operation for the girl had since commenced.

Akinwande, however, used the opportunity to advise parents to caution their children against playing with erosion wherever they are.

Confirming the unfortunate incident the divisional police officer DPO Iksre Akoko supretendent of police Sp olatujoye Akinwande disclosed that the school principal mrs Ajoe Asiwaju reported the case this evening while the search and rescue operation has commenced.The dpo urged parents to caution children against playing with erosion.

The same River Dada has recorded two or three similar incidents in the past while a student of AAUA Akungba was swept away three- years ago and her body could not be found till today.
