….Begs Govt, Security agencies for protection
A popular clergyman in Akure, Prophet Kerubu Oluwagbemi has escaped assassination attempt by the whiskers when the gun allegedly pointed at him by the assassins failed to fire.
He has therefore raised alarm and pleaded with the Ondo State government and security agencies to provide security protection for him, his church members and his family from people threatening his life over the leadership tussle that is currently rocking Cherubim and Seraphim, C&S Unification Church in Ondo State.
Prophet Oluwagbemi, the Minister-in-Charge of C&S Apata Ayeraye, Ijoka Road, Akure, while recounting his ordeal to journalists on Wednesday August 10, 2022, said he escaped death by the whiskers when the gun pointed at him by the assassins failed to fire recently.
Oluwagbemi said they were after his life because he has been tipped to be the substantive Chairman the Ondo chapter of the church.
He said the incident happened on 2nd July, 2022 at about 12pm at a branch of the Church in Idanre, Idanre Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, “I am the Chairman to be of the Unification Church of Nigeria, Ondo state chapter. We were in a meeting of Unification Church of Nigeria, Ondo state chapter, in Idanre when, suddenly, some people came in. One of them was carrying a gun. They said they were asked to kill me and I want to know who sent them.
“The gun did not fire when they pointed it at me but it fired when it was pointed in to another direction and all of us ran away.
“We have tried our best to pursue the incident, but the suspect arrested by the police has been released.
“Ondo state government should please wage into the incident because my life is at risk. They wanted to kill me because of the leadership position.”
Madam-General of the church, Mrs. Apata Ogunbayo, the founder of the C&S Ileri-Iye, Akure, who was also at the meeting when the incident happened said they ran into the bush when the shooting started.
Ogunbayo said, “they said they wanted to kill one person, which is Prophet Kerubu Oluwagbemi. We ran into the bush. We are calling on the police and the state government to intervene on the attack, We want those that came to be arrested and prosecuted.
“We are the members of the Unification Church of Nigeria, Ondo state branch, but someone now came that he wanted to be the Chairman and we have been there since 2011. They just wanted to grab the chairmanship position in Ondo state.
“That is why we are appealing to the state government and the National body of the Unification Church of Nigeria to wage in into the issues because we don’t want to lose anybody as regards the leadership position.”
“We went to the police station at Olofin in Idanre, they arrested one man, Samson Oluwashina, also known as ‘King’ that we saw with the gun on the day of the attack. But unfortunately, police released him on bail on the second day, police are just trying to coverup the real fact about the incident.”
But while confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Zone 17 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, Akeem Adeoye said the investigation is still going on about the incident.
