….ADHERE STRICTLY TO DUE PROCESS IN YOUR SERVICE DELIVERY, ONDO HoS CHARGES PUBLIC SERVANTS
Compromise of the due process in public service has been described as the bane of effective service delivery in Nigeria.
The Ondo State Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele gave assertion while delivering a paper at a One-Day advocacy and sensitisation meeting of key players in the local government administration in the state held in Akure, the state capital.
The Head of Service decried the attitude of the citizenry expecting what they could personally benefit from individual public holders rather than holding them accountable for their actions and inactions while in such offices.
The Head of Service, who described indiscipline, unethical practices and failure to follow extant rules as some of the challenges hindering effective implementation of government goals across the three tiers of government, called for attitudinal change by those driving the system in a bid to achieve the desired results.
While describing the local governments as the closest to the people, Ogundele called on relevant stakeholders at the council level to champion the ongoing public service reform in the state to get better results for the people.
According to him, public servants should eschew high and unrealistic estimations of projects and services to allow the government to deliver more dividends of good governance to the people at lesser costs.
Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary of the state’s Local Government Commission, Mrs Adenike Ogunsola, noted that the advocacy meeting, with the theme: ‘Efficiency and Effectiveness in the Local Government’ was apt and timely in an era like now when effective service delivery was at its ebb, adding that pragmatic efforts should be put in place to rejig the system for effective service delivery.
She, therefore, charged the local government practitioners to always be guided by the fact that they were entrusted with great responsibilities for the benefit of the citizens.
Also expected to be delivered at the meeting includes a paper on the Ondo State Procurement Law, 2017 by the Director General of the state Bureau of Public Procurement among others.
