Man stabbed to death while settling fight in Ondo

A suspected murderer, Abidemi Oguntuyi, has been remanded in police custody an Ondo State Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, the state capital, for allegedly stabbing his co-tenant, identified as Abiye Friday, to death.

The defendant was alleged to have committed the offence on September 6, 2022, at about 11:00 am at Ibaka Quarters, Akungba-Akoko, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident happened when the deceased, was trying to settle an argument between the defendant and his brother.

He was later charged to court on two charges bothering on murder and attempted murder.

According to the prosecution, the offences contravened Sections 319 and 355  of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. II Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The police prosecutor, Mr Simon Wada told the court to remand the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional centre pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The defendant’s counsel, Adeola Kayode prayed for an adjournment to enable him to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s written application.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody pending a ruling on the remand application. He adjourned the case till October 7, 2022, for the ruling.
