The Ondo state government has endorsed plans by Anglican Church to take over famous Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure and Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar school, Akure.
SUNSHINETRUTH had on Monday 17th October, 2022 reported the efforts being made by the Anglican Church in Ondo state to take over the schools as confirmed by Most Reverend Simeon Borokini, the Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical province.
Reacting, the commissioner for education and science and technology, Femi Agagu in an interview with Roving Reporters said the state government was ready to return public schools to missions showing interest.
According to Agagu, “the government has approved the gradual release of schools to original owners and this had been pioneered by the Catholic Church and we have decided to do it piecemeal so that we can monitor through the processes and ensure that it is hitch free.
“There is a standing committee chaired by me that is implementing our work plan and at every stage we meet to review our activities and so far so good, things are going smoothly.
“Now that the Catholic church has pioneered it, other missions are also ready and because we already have a template, it is going to be easy to have that kind of relationship with other missions.
“The memorandum of understanding we have with the Catholic mission is going to be the template for other missions. Since this one (Catholic church taking over schools) is working, we have no doubt in our minds that it will always work with any other mission involved,” the Commissioner said. Roving Reporters
