….. as ODIRS enforces Road Tax

The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) in collaboration with other relevant agencies such as the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), officers of the police force, officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday Tuesday 1st November, 2022, embarked on massive enforcement exercise on road taxes and inspection of vehicle documents.
SUNSHINETRUTH correspondent who monitored the exercise, reports that over 31 vehicles were impounded during the exercise for offences such use of fake number plates, some unregistered vehicles, some vehicles are having old number plates, some drivers were driving with expired documents and expired driver’s license.





The exercise took place within Akure south local government area of Ondo State especially on Ondo road, Oyemekun road and Alagbaka axis of the state capital.
According to the State Liscencing Officer (SLO) of ODIRS, Mr Samuel Olajide, the essence of the exercise is to enforce compliance to the traffic law.
Olajide noted that the traffic law is so clear that any vehicle owner that will ply government roads must have been registered and have valid documents.
“There are some vehicles with illegal number plate like commercial vehicles using government number plates, there also some unregistered vehicles, some vehicles are having old number plates, some drivers are with expired documents and driver’s license, some don’t even have”.
“We’re carrying out this exercise because the government is concerned about the safety and security of lives of our people. These people carrying out criminal acts can easily be tracked if vehicles owners have valid documents”.
He stressed that the ODIRS collaborated with the Vehicle Inspection Officers and other because under the law, they are the ones who can inspect vehicles.
While urging the people found guilty of one offence or the other to do the needful, Olajide noted that the enforcement exercise is quarterly.
Mr Adeniyi Adenegan, the officer in charge of the enforcement, noted that the Vehicle inspection Officers and the ODIRS are partners in progress.
His words “We as enforcement officers, they need us to make the enforcement easier because the enforcement has been our system of working and working with them will make the enforcement a success”.
Adenegan added that the purpose of the enforcement is to sensitize road users to renew their driver’s license and vehicle documents as it is unlawful for any road user to drive without a valid license and documents.
