Festive Security: Amotekun launches ‘Operation Gbale Gbako’ in Southwest

….Commences Inter-Border Patrol in Ondo, Osun, others to follow

In a bid to address criminal activities during Yuletide season, Western Nigerian Security Network (WNSN) code named Amotekun on Friday, embarked on inter border patrol.

It would be recalled that the security agency last year commenced inter-border patrol with huge success recorded.

The exercise is between Ondo State and Osun State officers of the Western Nigerian Security Network Agency while Ekiti, Ogun and Oyo states will be launched at a later date.

While declaring the border patrol open and addressing the people at Owena border town, Ondo State Amotekun Commander and Chairman of Southwest Amotekun Commanders, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, explained that 340 victims of robbery and kidnap operations were rescued and 80 snatched vehicles were recovered, a number of kidnappers’ cells were dismantled, some kidnappers were arrested, some illegal arms and weapons were recovered among others in recent operations of the corps.

Adeleye who led the patrol team, stressed that in preparation for this year’s festive period, the security agency had redoubled its efforts  at ensuring that commuters, motorists, residents and visitors throughout this period can enjoy their holidays and they can sleep with their eyes closed.

The Commander who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security matters, opined, “we are commencing both the Ember patrol and the inter-border patrol activities of the Western Nigerian Security Network Agency.

“It is the collaboration of Ondo State and Osun State officers of the Western Nigerian Security Network Agency and at a latter date, we’ll be collaborating with Ekiti, Ogun, Oyo and  with all the other agencies in the States in the Southwest to ensure that all major roads, all villages, all forests in the Southwest part of the country are properly protected.

“This operation is tagged “Operation Gbale Gbako” which means we want to ensure sanity both at home and in the forest, on the road, on the sea, everywhere within the Southwest part of this country. We are going to embark on 24 hours patrol, 7days of the week from now till after the Christmas and New year holidays”.

“The uniqueness of this  “Operation Gbale Gbako” is at the instance of the  chairman of the Governor’s forum of South West region in person of  Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, who has graciously given us an enabling environment for us to join hands with Osun State counterparts to ensure a free flow holiday without security breaches.

“And this is also in collaboration with all the sister security agencies like the Police, the Army, the DSS, the Civil Defence and of course, the populace. That was why we had to greet them when we came, we need their information and corporation, for all of us, security is our business, when you see something, you say something and say it to the right quarters,” Adeleye said.

On his part, Retired Brigadier General Aderounbi, the Amotekun Commander of Osun State, urged the community to cooperate with the security agency and make sure that this time around,  another huge success is recorded to bring improved security to lives and property of people in the Southwest region.

Jide Oyedeji, one of the residents at Owena border town, said that the people are highly interested in collaborating with the Amotekun officers.

While appreciating them for all they have been doing, he urged them to continue doing all they have been doing rightly.

Samuel Adeboye, another resident in the state said that the inter border patrol is a welcome idea because with the presence of Amotekun, the people can now sleep well, go to their farms, as everyone is praising the present administration.

He enjoined the government to continue to encourage Amotekun officers, give them whatever they need so that they can perform more than before.
