Ondo Govt mourns Nigeria’s First Prof Of Medicine, Oladapo Ogunlesi who died @99

PROFESSOR OLADIPO OGUNLESI; AN AVATAR OF MEDICAL RESEARCH, PRACTICE AND THOUGHT

The government and the people of Ondo State note the transition into the pantheon of the greats, of Professor Oladipo Ogunlesi.

Falling months short of a centenary, Prof Ogunlesi who was Nigeria’s first Professor of medicine did not rely on longevity to prove that he was one of the best and the brightest of a generation.

His scholastic application, diligence in research, and practical demonstration reflected a thoroughbred professional. His commitment and insistence on the highest professional standards made him the gold standard for the profession.

The government of Ondo State commiserates with members of the medical profession, the University College Hospital, the government and people of Ogun State and with the Ogunlesi’s who should be proud of a patriarch who was a legend in his own lifetime. Eternal rest grant him oh Lord!

NIGERIA’S FIRST PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE OGUNLESI DIED AT 99

The first Nigerian Professor of Medicine Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi had died at 99 few days ago.

Ogunlesi, an Emeritus Professor, who hailed from Makun Sagamu area of Ogun State and the father of Billionaire Adebayo Ogunlesi the owner of Gatwick Airport, the second-busiest airport in the UK and the ninth-busiest in Europe died on Thursday.

He made history in 1965 as Nigeria’s first Professor of Medicine.

Ogunlesi started on the path of a medical doctor at Yaba College of Medicine in 1947, and advanced his career at the University of London, 1953 where he qualified as a registered Medical Officer in England.
