…..Ex-Speakers Taofeeq, Olabimtan, Elegbeleye, Debo Ologunagba, Ogunmolasuyi, Niyi Oseni, Adefarati, BTO, others speak on elections
Scarcity of new Naira notes and fuel which has caused hardship in the country lately, does not stop the people in the six local government areas of Ondo North Senatorial district from turning out enmass to participate in saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Our reporters who covered the elections for one senatorial district of Ondo North as well as three federal constituencies of Akoko northeast/Northwest, Akoko Southeast/Southwest and Owo/Ose, report that the exercise is generally peaceful.
At OkeAgbe in Akoko Northwest, Court Hall/Agafo Aroye Unit, the polling unit of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, (BTO), member federal house of representatives, Akoko North East/ North West Federal Constituency, voted and described the process as peaceful and hitch-free in the area.
Akogun Adetokunbo Modupe candidate of the PDP in Ondo North Senatorial District voted around 9a.m at Ute Ward 12, unit 9, Sawmill Road in Ose LGA, while his APC opponent, Pastor Jide Ipinsagba voted at Ikado ward 2 in Ikare, Akoko northwest LGA.
Modupe said the turnout was impressive and commended INEC for the process so far.
However there was a case of
BVAS malfunctioning at Araromi unit 7, Edo ward 1, Ikare in Akoko northeast, where the Ondo State Minority leader, Hon Rasheed Elegbeleye voted and called for timely intervention of INEC officials.
Also in Ikare Akoko, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Taofeeq Abdulsalam, a Community leader, Alaja of Okegbe in Ikare, High Chief Adebisi Abraham and the Special Adviser to Ondo state Governor on Environment, Mr Oyeniyi Oseni expressed journey that despite the scarcity of naira notes and fuel, voters still turned out enmass to exercise their franchise.
After casting his vote at Ibaka Akungba ward 1 in Akoko Southwest, Hon Gboyega Adefarati who is the APC Reps Candidate in the election, and at Iwaro Oka Akoko, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Debo Ologunagba, commended INEC and security agencies for almost perfect electoral process so far.
At Igboroko ward 3, unit 14, Owo, the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi and at Supare Akoko, the Chairman of the Ondo state Basic Education Board, SUBEB and former Speaker, Rt Hon Victor Olabimtan commended voters for coming out to exercise their franchise despite the recent hardship caused by naira and fuel crises.
Ogunmolasuyi said the people of Owo displayed uncommon courage by coming in their numbers to vote peacefully for candidates of their choice, adding that the outcome of the election in his area clearly showed that APC remains the most popular people’s choice.
During the exercise, some traders opened shops for business at Oba Akoko despite a ban on such activities during voting
