Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, has the right to his personal opinion but with profound respect to him, OBJ doesn’t have the moral ground or election-conducting history to wade into what is going on. Under him, the 2003 and 2007 general elections were adjudged to be the worst elections conducted in Nigeria, under Prof. Moris Iwu.
The press conference of OBJ today is capable of setting the country on fire, like what happened in 1983. In 2007, Late Umaru Yar’Adua of PDP faulted the presidential election conducted by OBJ to have been marred by irregularities.
Instead of OBJ as an elder statesman to be preaching peace and anything that can cause violence, he used the whole time to say what can incite violence. We now know understand why OBJ is not among the Peace Committee, headed by Gen. Abubakar.
The worst 2007 elections conducted under OBJ brought us to the off-season in Edo, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun today, even the 2003 governorship election in Anambra
OBJ presented the case in a way that can make those who are losing cause unrest, believing that INEC has rigged out their party(s) or candidate(s).
There must be a way our leaders address issues at this crucial time.
Ostensibly, OBJ has shown partisanship in this election unlike GEJ, GOWON and Gen. Abubakar, and any view from him will be biased.
We were in this country, when OBJ supervised the unlawful impeachment of some Governors, including his Presidential candidate, Peter Obi in Anambra by the PDP state lawmakers.
The statement of OBJ is been carried out by the PDP agents at the national collation centre in Abuja, which is capable of disrupting the national peace and causing violence.
Sections 65 of the Electoral Act, 2022 is very explicit and the best option is to approach the election tribunal rather than exhibiting a character that can bring the country down.
