The Ondo state government has approved the recruitment of more health workers, even as the government on Tuesday defended changing of the name of Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in Akure to the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Akure.
The government said the actions were to improve qualitative health care delivery to residents.
The government also promised to fortify security in the hospital to prevent harassment of staff.
Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu disclosed this on Tuesday while commissioning medical and surgical building at Mother and Child hospital, Akure on Tuesday.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka explained that it was important to expand the range of services beyond maternal and child care at the Akure MCH, so that residents can enjoy unhindered access to qualitative health care.
He said that it now provides medical, surgical, dental and other services noting that plans are underway to recruit more personnel in the health sector to replace those who have left the system.
ODSG TO EMPLOY MORE HEALTH WORKERS, SAYS AIYEDATIWA.
Ondo State Acting Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said that, the State would soon employ more health workers for the advancement of the lives of its residents.
Aiyedatiwa gave this hint when the Leadership of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists, paid him a courtesy visit at Governor’s Office, Alagbaka Akure, on Wednesday.
Joining the Acting Governor in receiving the pharmacists’ team were, Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, Commissioner of Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharm. Foluke Aladenola; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa
In his brief remarks, the Acting Governor said Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led government would sustain the leading position of the State in health, education, security and infrastructural strides within the available resources in the State.
According to him, “we will continually advance on how best we can advance our course as a government to bring better Iives to our people and ensure we continue to create the enabling environment for our people to thrive in their various endeavors” .
Aiyedatiwa further revealed to the team that, the Governor has special interest in the health of the people living in the State, and that a healthy and sound population would lead to a productive society.
Assuring the pharmacists that, the administration has been so good to the health sector, Aiyedatiwa further disclosed that, “the State Executive Council had approved the employment of more health workers, and that i am sure, pharmacists is one of the categories of health workers that will be employed”.
