“Ondo state is a no go area for prostitutes, yahoo business” —Akeredolu’s SA on Gender

….meets NSCDC, Brothel operators, other stakeholders.

The Ondo State Government has met with stakeholders on how to tackle the increasing rate of prostitution among young ladies, internet fraud popularly known as ‘yahoo-yahoo’ and other social vices activities amongst youths in the state.

Hon Olamide Falana, the Special Adviser to the Governor Ondo State on Gender, disclosed this at a one-day sensitization programme organized by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for Brothel Owners Association in Akure held today.

According to her, Ondo State Government has zero tolerance to human trafficking, crime, sex work and other illegal trade.

Falana said; “Ondo state government is determined to support many young people who are willing to leave such of a life and have meaningful employment, so that they can live quality of lives.

“Brothel Owners in Ondo State cannot continue the illegality because we have zero tolerance for yahoo-yahoo business and other related crimes. Ondo state cares for everybody.

“We need to speak out against human trafficking in our society. We should not be an accomplice to crime and we should have zero tolerance to child abuse.

“We should support the government efforts towards providing quality education to our young boys and girls. Ondo state is a no go area for prostitutes and yahoo yahoo business.”

She, therefore, said all hands must be on deck to fight against all these
vices activities amongst the youths in the state.

Earlier, in his short opening remarks, the Ondo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Olayinka Olatundun said; “We need to understand what the law says, we need to be careful while we are engaging our businesses that we do not need to violate those laws that have been established here in Ondo state.

“The law enforcement agencies are out there to ensure that proper things are done, we need to be sensitized when you’re doing your business you don’t need to do anything that will go against the law.

The Secretary of the Brothel Owners Association, Ondo State Chapter, Alade Olugbenga said the programme was a welcome development, adding that “we believe with this sensitization programme members of our association will know what it entails and we will go back to let our other members know the illegality of the work.”
