Mass Sack at Ondo Varsity, Angry Workers protest, demand reversal

Following mass sack of workers at the Ondo State-owned Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, the angry staff today shut down the school over the alleged dismissal of over 35 of their colleagues.

The workers, who closed the school main gate vowed to paralyze all academic and non-academic activities in the school, untill the sacked workers are recalled to duty.

They said the sacked colleagues were duly employed, issued appointment letters, did all documentations and had worked in the school for over six months before the University Council Chairman, Professor Adesomoju ordered their dismissal on Tuesday.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman, Joint Action Committee of OAUSTECH, Dayo Temola said: “We woke to a shocking news that over twenty two members of staff have been sacked after a meeting of the University Governing Council held yesterday, 20th of June, 2023. It is trite to say that when this news had earlier filtered, it was debunked by University management/ Council until yesterday.

“We therefore reiterate that the basis for justification of these mass sack by the Council is not tenable and will neither be tolerated nor accepted. The Unions of SSANU,NASU AND NAAT hereby reject this mass sack and demand the followings: That the mass sack been reversed with immediate effect, that Ondo State Government should as a matter of urgency set up a visitation panel in line with with the University laws”, Temola said.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Paul Adeagbo said the institution will soon come up with a comprehensive reaction to the allegation.
