Olamide Falana charges New FUTASU Exco On Accountability

A new executives of the Student Union body of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has been inaugurated yesterday in the Ondo State Capital.

Speaking at the swearing-in of the Students’ body Executives, the Special Adviser to Governor Akeredolu on gender, Hon (Mrs) Olamide Falana has charged the new executives of the Student Union body of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) on Accountability and inclusiveness.

Falana, who is an Alumnus of FUTA said that they should be accountable to the students in whatever they do and whatever they do must always be to the best interest of the students.

“Ensure that you do not mismanage the resources given to you, do not mismanage the time of your fellow students, do not mismanage the opportunity given to you. If you mismanage any of these three things, the student body will definitely suffer for it”.

The Special Adviser added that violence is never the way, they should try other innovative ways of conflict resolution towards ensuring that they get their rights as students.

Falana stressed that they must not be above the law, always remember that even as student leaders, they are subject to the law governing the student union government and they must uphold the constitution that they have made their vows to.

In her address, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Adenike Oladiji congratulated the newly elected students union executives, she also congratulated those who didn’t win the election, commending their courage as they have done what some people cannot do.

Prof Oladiji said, “the new executives must know that leadership is not bread and butter, whatever is committed into their hands must be well done. Be ready for criticisms, both positive and negative, and should not take critisism as if someone is fighting you”.

“Enjoy the privilege of robust discussions before taking a decision, do shouldn’t force their opinion on anybody, take decisions in the best interest of the university”.

She also urged them not to engage in actions that will embarrass the university and maintain academic excellence, stressing that her door is opened at any moment for the students.

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Youths and Students Affairs, Hon. Muyiwa Ogunyemi also admonished the newly elected executives to be good leaders and must not allow any external influence to come and distabilize what they are doing in the school.

Ogunyemi added that with the newly elected executives, the students should be rest assured that they are in safe hands.

In his Inaugural speech, the new President of Student Union Government, FUTA, Oluwasoromidayo Olayemi stated that his emergence is a dream come true, vowing that he is prepared and ready to serve.

“We are concerned with battling problems affecting the campus and we are set to stand firm in providing solutions to students’ problems and we hope to create a union that will improve the quality of stay of students in and out of the campus. My fellow students should expect accountable government”.

He, however, urged the other executive members to give him maximum support and corporation so that they can achieve great things during their tenure.

Also, the new Speaker of the 37th Assembly of FUTA Students Representatives Council, Rt. Hon.  Femi Falana noted that the students should have it at the back of their minds that they have a speaker who is diplomatic and flexible.

“I want my fellow Futarians to know that they have a friend and a brother in me, their welfarism and interest will be well protected by me”, Falana said.
