NUC approves Medicine, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy for Achievers University

….As Varsity’s College of Nursing Sciences secures NMCN’s Approval

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval to Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State to admit students to Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D), Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) and eight other undergraduate programmes.

In a letter sent to the Vice-Chancellor signed by Abubakar Girei, Ag. Director, Academic Planning, on behalf of Chris Maiyaki, Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, the other undergraduate programmes, which are “to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2023/2024 Academic Session”, are Health Information Science, Procurement Management, Banking and Finance, Remote Sensing and Geoscience Information System, Guidance and Counselling, Library and Information Science, Chemistry Education and Biology Education.

The Ag. Executive Secretary enjoins the University to ensure that the programmes “bear only approved titles and nomenclature” as well as “provide adequate human and material resources for the development and growth of the approved programmes”.

Same day, the University also received the good news that its affiliate, Achievers College of Nursing Sciences, Akure, has secured the nod of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to commence training of nurses and midwives immediately.

In a letter addressed to the proprietor of the College, Faruk Abubakar, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NMCN, conveyed the approval on behalf of the coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Professor Omolola Irinoye, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, on behalf of the University Governing Council, thanked NUC and NMCN for “their commitment to excellence, quality and human resources development for Nigeria and in the global context”.
