Ondo NAWOJ partners OSPHCDA on HPV dangers

The Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency , OSPHCDA is to collaborate with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists , NAWOJ , Ondo state to sensitise people on the dangers of Human Papilloma Virus, HPV.

The Permanent Secretary, OSPHCDA , Dr Francis Akanbiemu during an advocacy campaign to the association in Akure described HPV as the virus causing cancer of the cervix which was the second leading cause of death worldwide after breast cancer.

Dr Akanbiemu who was represented by the state director, disease control, Dr Victor Akinfesoye said that Ondo state would begin vaccination against HPV for girls between age nine to fourteen years in May this year.

The medical expert noted that the agency was partnering NAWOJ for effective sensitization about the vaccine and dispel myths around the vaccine.

Earlier in a remark , NAWOJ Chairperson, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi appreciated the primary health care development agency for choosing the association as part of the its team noting that NAWOJ had always been a channel for reliable information and a voice to end Cancer.

Comrade Gbadamosi enjoined the people of the state to make their children and wards available for the vaccine and avoid hearsays about human papiloma virus vaccine

Among the advocacy team were representatives of world health Organisation, WHO , UNICEF and Clinton health access initiative who are partners of the programme
