2024 IWD: Hon. Omowunmi felicitates Ondo Women, seeks more appointment for them

The former State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Omowunmi Olatunji has expressed congratulations to Ondo State women most especially as women world over mark the 2024 International Women’s Day.

The Akure Princess who said there is need for women to continue to celebrate themselves in spite of all odds noted further that this year’s theme “Invest in Women”, is a clarion call to all to give women voice and promote gender equality.

Hon. Omowunmi also applauded Ondo State government for being gender friendly just as she restated the need to include more women in governance as part of efforts geared towards promoting equality, fairness and inclusion.

While particularly celebrating Ondo State women who have used their leadership roles to promote other women, Hon. Omowunmi said women must be accorded their place so that they are involved in matters that directly affects them.

She urged other stakeholders to close gender gap in places of work as women over time have proven their capability to deliver on set goals..

On women discrimination and sexual violence, Hon. Omowunmi condemned in strong terms such practices saying no meaningful development can take place where women as key stakeholders are not included in decision making processes that affects them.

She also used the opportunity to restate the need to invest in women in order to achieve sustainable development.
