Funfair as Purple House wins Pride of Zion School Inter-House Sports

Fustba House (Purple) has emerged overall champion of the maiden edition of inter-house sports of the Pride of Zion (MONTESSORI) Nursery and Primary School, Ilekun Oda Road, Akure, with 119 points.

Elekun House (Yellow ) came second with 98 points, while Mobolaji (Pink) House and Francis (Green) House clinched 3rd and 4th position with 75 and 74 points respectively.

The annual competition; themed, “Striving to be the Best”, saw the pupils joyfully take part in various track and field events such as the march past, 50-metre race, sack race, filling the bottle, bursting the ballon, threading the needle, among others, at their best to the admiration of their parents, guests and other spectators.

The inter-house sports competition held at the school playground on Wednesday had in attendance notable dignitaries including The Elekun of Ilekun, Oba Omoleewo Benjamin Olufemi, Permanent Secretary, doyens of education among others.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Regional Integration and Diaspora, Mrs Lola Amuda, who is also the chairman of the occasion, described sports activities as essential part of children’s development, saying students are expected to be good in all areas development.

According to her, sports in school provide opportunities for young ones to showcase their potentials, and participate in different types of exercise that are important for healthy physical development.

Amuda commended the school management for striving to give their pupils all-round development, and not only exposing them to academic, character training, and moral upbringing alone but for exposing the beginners to sports to ensure physical development.

She said sports, like academics, could also take someone far in life.

“We know that in the education system, it is not only good to train learners in the cognitive and affective domains, it is important to expose our kids to the psychomotor domain and physical developments,” she said.

Earlier, the proprietor of the school, Dr. (Mrs) Clara Adeyemo in his opening address, stressed that extra-curricular activities should be indispensable part of every pupil’s life, especially during their early academic years.

Adeyemo said sporting activities help the pupils to stay healthy and fit as a sound mind lies in a sound body.

She congratulated all the pupils of the great citadel of learning for their passion for sports, and for their perseverance on the field, leading to outstanding performances by the various teams.

She urged all parents to help the pupils identify their hidden talents and help them shape the talents to the best of their capacity, adding that the school would continue to keep up with the tradition of celebrating Annual Sports Day.

Husband of the proprietor and former Ondo State Head of Service, Pastor Niran Adeyemo, appreciated the parents and the invited guests for gracing the epoch-making event, just as he prayed for the school pupils for outstanding success in life.

Different prizes were later presented to all the winners.
