Ondo state security network codenamed Amotekun Corps has dismissed three of its officers for professional misconducts.
The Commander of Amotekun corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, announced this today in Akure while parading seven suspects who stole some household materials.
Chief Adeleye said the three dismissed officers would be prosecuted in line with the regulations guiding the corps.
“We want to inform the public that we have three of the Amotekun personnel that had gone through the normal process of corps marshall and had been dismissed today for professional misconduct and we will ensure that adequate punishments even after the dismissal are given to them.
“The penalty of what they did is to dismiss them and we have dismissed them accordingly.”
This is just as Residents of Victory Estate at Ilekun community in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State were on Monday night rescued from armed robbers who were radding the houses one after the other.
Residents put an emergency call through to Amotekun Corps around 1:30 am when some armed robbers invaded the estate and began to rob the residents of their valuables.
According to a member of the Landlords Association in the Estate, Hon. Akin Akosile, who was at Amotekun Corps headquarters on Tuesday during the parade of robbery suspects, disclosed that the armed robbers invaded the community around 1:40 am on Tuesday and began to break into houses one after the other collecting money and other valuables from the residents.
He explained that it was the arrival of Amotekun Corps that saved them from the criminals.
The Corps Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye revealed that within a short time the formation was contacted by the residents, a team of Amotekun Corps raced to the estate and was able to recover a Toyota Camry that had been stolen from one of the residents and some telephone handsets snatched from the residents.
But the armed robbers abandoned the vehicle at took to their heels to escape being apprehended by the Amotekun officials who were pursuing them fiercely.
One of the residents, who had a close shave with death, was stabbed in back region of his head by the armed robbers when he resisted them.
According to the injured resident, who is a observing his one-year national service, disclosed that the armed robbers shot at him but was not hit by the bullet.
Moreover, seven other crime suspects were paraded among who were three human traffickers.
The remaining four suspects were arrested for housebreaking.
Items carted away from the victims include four fire extinguishers, Lister Generator and hospital equipment including sterilizer.
Assuring the people of the state of unrelenting efforts of the Amotekun Corps to protect life and property, particularly during Easter holiday and to the end of the Ramadan, Akogun Adeleye disclosed that 700 officials of the Amotekun Corps would be deployed to the 18 local government areas of the state during the season.
He said: “Our parade today is more of sensitization, we have seven suspected criminals and we want to inform the public that they should assist us so that we can assist them too.
“We recovered a vehicle which was attacked by armed bandits, and the resident of a particular community around Akure town raised the alarm and within few minutes of the alarm, we were able to move and on getting there, while trying to rescue the victim, the armed robbers who had already taken over the vehicle drove off.
“We e were able to retrieve the vehicle while the effort is on to apprehend the robbers,” Adeleye said.
