We didn’t reschedule Ondo LG election, ODIEC clears air on date

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), has reiterated its commitment to conducting elections into the 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state which has been slated for July 13 2024.


The Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Joseph Aremo made this known during a meeting with the executives of Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in the state on Monday,

Aremo assured that the elections would hold as scheduled on the 13th July 2024 while emphasizing that the election would be conducted to elect 18 council chairmen and Vice chairmen for the Local Government, 33 chairmen and vice chairmen for the LCDA and councillors in the 203 wards in the state.

  He sought for the  cooperation of all the stakeholders including security operatives to  ensure  peaceful, transparent and credible elections in the 18 LGAs  and the 33 LCDAs across the state.

According to him, the timetable and outline of activities for the conduct of the elections has not changed while he advised them to stick to it

He charged the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) as the umbrella body of political parties in the state on the need to communicate the readiness of the Commission to other political parties not in attendance.

Aremo charged all the representatives of the political parties at the meeting to stick to the schedule of activities as released by the Commission for the conduct of the primaries

His words “We are conducting elections into 203 wards for the position of councilor and two positions which include chairmen and vice chairmen position in 18 LGAs and 33 LCDAs.On our part, we are set. All we need is your cooperation”

Speaking on the reason for the meeting Aremo said “we are here to charge and to prepare political parties ahead of the elections.We are not rescheduling again as the day is sacrosanct.”

Responding, the State Chairman of IPAC, Mr. Olaoluwa Adesanya, commended the chairman of the commission for his preparation to ensure the elections hold.
He, therefore, assured the Commission of IPAC’s cooperation towards the conduct of credible elections.
