The Ondo State council of the Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE), has elected new executive members to pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.
They were elected during the 2nd Quadrennial state delegate conference with the theme: “Self Discpline In Quality Representation and Leadership”, held at NCSU state secretariat, in Akure on Friday.
Comrade Adesida Adeyinka Albert was re-elected as the state Chairman, while other members elected were: Vice Chairman, Comr. Olotu Gabriel Olurotimi; Treasurer, Comr. Arifalo Abiodun; Women Coordinator, Comrd. (Mrs.) Mosunmola Adunola;Trustee, Comr. Adedara Sunday Ebenezer; Auditor, Comr. Bakare Taye; Welfare Officer, Comr. (Mrs.) Ganiyu Olayemi; Ex-Officio 1, Comr. (Mrs.) David Bosede and Ex-Officio II, Comr.Charles Oskapmawon.
Comrade Adesida Adeyinka in his address, vowed to continually promote the welfare of it’s teaming members across the State as the state leadership under his watch has been representing the Union maximally well with a pronounced feedback mechanism.
“I want to beckon on members to give more support for our betterment as greater achievement requires more sacrificial commitment.”
Adesida also urged the Federal Government to work towards fully harnessing the potential of the sector by assisting genuine local farmers with inputs and funding so as to further grow the economy and create jobs.
According to him, “there is need for the FG and state governments to subsidise inputs for genuine farmers to encourage commercial farming activities for export and local consumption.”
He emphasised that the new leadership would continue to partner with the national leadership of the union and the Federal Government to address the hardship on Nigerians by ensuring foods availability and price control.
“Agriculture as a main sustenance of global economy requires more financial and human involvement by the State Government in maintaining the level of food security and eliminate poor nutritional index of our dear citizens.
“This implies that more efforts are needed in the areas of employing Agricultural professionals, thus promoting the sector. Agriculture is the wisest pursuit in contributing real wealth, good morals and happiness.”
The NUAAE Chairman also pleaded with Ondo State Government to kindly re-visit the extension of occupational hazard allowances that had been enjoyed by its colleagues in Livestock/Veterinary Departments and health sector.
“I equally wish to express the need for Agricultural workers to enjoy rural allowances as most workers work from rural locations in sustaining food stability and improving Agricultural production in all facets of economy.”
In his goodwill message, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Victor Amoko, appealed to any aggrieved members to synergises with the union in developing policies that would shape their activities in the right direction.
He equally called on the state leadership of NUAAE to embrace more unions in the Agricultural sector for enhanced development of agriculture in the country.
