Indigenes of Ayeka community in Okitipupa Local Government, on Monday 27-05-2024, filed a committal proceedings against Ondo State Government over violation of court order of injunction pending on the installation of new Lumure of Ayeka Kingdom.
There was a vacancy in the stool of Lumure of Ayeka Kingdom after the death of the last Lumure of Ayeka Kingdom (HRM,Oba Fredrick Aiyelomi) of Ayeka, Okitipupa LGA in Ondo State.
The modality to install new Lumure for the Ayeka Kingdom led to a dispute, where the state Government was bent on using a Chieftaincy declaration which some members of the Ayeka community felt was done fraudulently by few section of the community.
Aggrieved members of the community therefore approached the court in suit No. HOK/45/2022 BETWEEN HIGH CHIEF J. E LIOPO & ORS -VS- GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE &ORS and prayed the court to set aside the declaration.
While the case was pending, the said aggrieved members of the community, through their counsel, Omolegbon Odusola Esq prayed the court for order of injunction to restrain the Governor of Ondo State from continuing or carrying out the installation of new Lumure of Ayeka Kingdom pending when the suit will be determined.
The order was given on 30th November, 2022 by Hon. Justice D. I. Kolawole.
While the order is pending, the Governor of Ondo State instructed the okitipupa local government to continue with the selection process in violation of the court order of injunction.
The aggrieved persons have now commenced a committal proceedings against the governor of Ondo State, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Okitipupa local government staff vide a Notice of disobedience of court order dated 27th May, 2024.
