EFCC nightclub raid can discourage Investors —Ondo Dep. Speaker, Akinruntan

Deputy Speaker, Akinruntan Condemns EFCC’s Raids on Hotels, Nightclubs In Akure

•Implores Gov Aiyedatiwa to wade in

The Deputy Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Prince) Abayomi B. Akinruntan has condemned the sting operation by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) of two nightclubs in the state capital, Akure.

Akinruntan described the unprofessional invasion and arrest of the people at the nightclubs as flagrant disregard of Nigerians privacy while observing the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) role in fighting financial crime in Nigeria.

From a veritable source, EFCC officials stormed the popular Signatures and Alba Royale Clubs where 127 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested and dehumanised including a groom-to-be at the weekend.

Akinruntan noted that, innocent Nigerians labelled as fraudsters on social media is maligning and capable of worsening the economic situation in the state. While business activity is thriving, this singular invasion may discourage investors within Akure and Ondo State; creating more holes for unemployment.

Without prejudice, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Akinruntan implored listening Gov Lucky Aiyedatiwa to wade in to avoid a repeat of #EndSars protest in Akure metropolis. He commended patriotic Nigerians in Ondo State following the peaceful protest and called for calmness.

He further asserted that, the EFCC should adhere strictly to the principles of human rights and deploy the use of modern technology to carry out their operations like other developed countries.
