EFCC RAID: ODHA CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION, CONDEMNS MODE OF OPERATION
Members of Ondo State House of Assembly have condemned in strong terms the mode of operation of the officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during the raid on the two private lounges on Friday in Akure the State Capital.
This was made known in a resolution passed at a plenary today presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji.
In an official statement made available to journalists by the Chairman, House Committee on information,Hon. (Chief), Olatunji Oshati, the Speaker sympathized with the owners of the lounges and called for proper investigation into the matter.
According to him, the EFCC has the statutory right to perform its lawful duty, but all must be done to respect and protect the fundamental rights of people at all times.
“We remain Committed to ensuring all actions and reactions are guided strictly by-law. Why we recognize and assert the mandate of the EFCC in combating all forms of financial crimes and fraudulent acts, we believe this can be done without allegedly resulting to trampling on civil rights or inflicting physical injury on people”, he said.
In the resolution, the House called on EFCC to ensure that only those who are found guilty of the alleged offence among the reported 127 people should be duly prosecuted in the court of law, while those who are innocent should immediately be released.
It also called on youth across the State to shun involvement in fraudulent acts such as online scam and other vices crwUapable of destroying their futures and putting them into trouble.
The House expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ondo State,Hon.Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his timely intervention in the matter.
While sympathizing with the club and hotel owners and all innocent people who sustained injuries or experienced discomfort during the EFCC raid, the House also appealed to the youth to be calm, saying that all had been put in place to ensure that justice is carried out on the issue as soon as possible.
