In a remarkable achievement that underscores his growing influence, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for Ondo State’s governorship, has been honored with a prestigious doctorate degree by the British American University (BAU) in Florida, USA.

At a conferment ceremony held yesterday, OBA was awarded a PhD Honoris Causa in Public and Corporate Governance, recognizing his exceptional contributions to leadership and societal development. In an additional mark of distinction, OBA was also appointed as an Ambassador of BAU, further elevating his international profile.

Speaking after the ceremony, OBA expressed his gratitude: “This honor from BAU is both humbling and inspiring. It reinforces my commitment to bringing world-class governance to Ondo State and bridging our local needs with global perspectives.”

The ceremony also saw honors bestowed upon individuals close to OBA. His wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Christianah Akingboye, received a PhD Honoris Causa in Management, while the SDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Dr. (Mrs.) Susan Gbemisola Alabi, was awarded a PhD Honoris Causa in Business Administration.

Prof. Joshua Folorunsho Oguntuwase, Vice President (Nigeria) and Member of the Governing Council of BAU, praised the awardees for their “evidently seen impact and appreciable accomplishments” in various fields including business, governance, and contributions to society at large.

This international recognition comes at a crucial time as Ondo State approaches its gubernatorial elections. It positions OBA as a candidate with not only local appeal but also international credibility, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the upcoming electoral contest.

OBA’s new role as a BAU Ambassador opens up possibilities for international collaborations that could benefit Ondo State, should he emerge victorious in the upcoming elections. As the political landscape evolves, this accolade serves as a powerful statement of OBA’s readiness to lead the state into a new era of globally recognized governance.

The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Mohammed Ayinla Omolaja, President and Chairman of Council, alongside Prof. Oguntuwase, highlighting the prestigious nature of the awards.

As Ondo State prepares for its gubernatorial race, OBA’s recent international recognition adds an intriguing dimension to his campaign, potentially influencing voter perceptions and political dynamics in the state.
