Ondo North Youth Presidents meet Senator Ipinsagba, table demands

Council of Ondo North Youth President’s meets Senator Jide Ipinsagba: Demands youthful inclusion in decision-making.

Meeting held on Saturday July 6, 2024, at the Royal Bird Hotel in Akure, Ondo State, the Council of Ondo North Youth President’s which encompasses the 6 Local Government Youth Presidents making up Ondo North Senatorial District, The President of Akoko Youth Forum and the Coordinator of Ondo State Youth Network for Ondo North Senatorial District, met with their representative at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly in person of Distinguished Senator Jide Ipinsagba.

The meeting became necessary to intimate the distinguished Senator of the challenges faced by the youths of his senatorial zone, profers solutions and by extension familiarize with him, being the first of it’s kind. The Council informed the Senator as elected representatives of Akoko South West Youth Forum, Akoko South East Youth Forum, Akoko North East Youth Forum, Akoko North West Youth Forum, The Owo General Assembly, Ose Youth Forum, Akoko Youth Forum and Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN), Ondo North Senatorial District, it becomes imperative the Senator regularly engage, interact and carry these youth organizations along in all his programmes and plans.

At the course of the meeting, the council appreciated the distinguished Senator for the opportunity to interface with him and also used the medium to appreciate him for his many intervention programmes for the youths, aged, women, training and infrastructural development across the Senatorial District in the last one year.

Among issues highlighted and extensively discussed with the Senator by the Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents include; *Inclusivity,
*Facilitation of job employment for the youths of Ondo North Senatorial District,
*Empowerment and training on ICT,
*Recommendations of our youths,
*Scholarship initiatives which should also target post graduates students undergoing their masters and PhD programmes,
*Combating rising insecurity in the region,
*Involvement of the Youths in the formulation of bills that will be of immense benefit to our senatorial district
*Agricultural initiatives among others.

In his response, the Distinguished Senator Jide Ipinsagba appreciated the council for the visit, he also acknowledged the challenges faced by the youths and called for inclusive collaborations from the side of the youths for the development of our senatorial district. He appealed to the youths, harping on Communication issues, while he assured support on any of our programs, he took time to highlight his many achievements in last one year in office, while he appealed to forgo all what has happened over some months, with a promise to carry the Council along going forward in all his programmes and advice the youths on having patriotic and developmental mindset.

Furthermore, the Senator agreed to:
*Facilitate a youth empowerment program
*Support education and skill acquisition initiatives
*Advocate for improved healthcare and security in the communities, including medical outreach for the people
*Youths agreed to:
*Collaborate with the Senator’s office to organize the empowerment program
*Identify potential beneficiaries for the program

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for future initiatives
    *Collaborate in implementation of the projects and programs.

The meeting ended with a sense of hope and renewed commitment to addressing the challenges faced by youths in Ondo North Senatorial district. The Senator’s willingness to listen and support the youths initiatives was widely appreciated. The meeting demonstrated the power of dialogue and collaboration in driving positive change and in youth and community development.

The meeting lasted for 3 hours and the Council agreed on follow-up meeting with the Senator scheduled to review progress, discuss new ideas, and explore opportunities for further collaboration for our youths and communities.
