N30million debt: Court orders Ondo govt to negotiate with ZL Global Alliance

An Ondo State High Court, sitting in Akure has ordered the state Government and waste management firm, ZL Global Alliance to reach compromise on how to release additional equipment for clearing of waterways to prevent flooding and also pay the debt owing the ZL.

The Waste management company had asked the court to mandate the state government to pay the outstanding N30,063,891, debt owing it.

Justice David Kolawole who gave the order on Monday, also ruled that the parties should meet this week to resolve the aspect of preventing flooding.

The lawyer to ZL Global Alliance, Toyin Bashorun, SAN, had earlier informed the court that the company had complied with its order that three scarvators and two load trucks should be released to the state government to prevent flooding in the state.

But the counsel to the defendant (state government), H. M. Falowo said the court should still order release of more equipment in the possession of the ZL Global alliance, a request objected to by Bashorun due to lack of commitment from the state government to meet the firm for resolution.

Ruling on the argument of the parties, justice Kolawole held that the issue between the two parties to embrace arbitration or adr before return to the court.

The court therefore adjourned the case till 24th July, 2024.
