In his efforts to empower talented youths and discover football talents in his community and its environs, the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Transportation and Akogun of Oka Akoko, Hon. Olugbenga Omole has invited an Ex-Nigerian Super Eagles Star, Victor Ikpeba, to grace the final of the 2024 Annual Akogun Football Competition coming up in Oka Akoko.
This year’s Competition started on Tuesday 25th June, 2024 and the Final comes up on Friday 2nd August, 2024 at Ojomirin High School Agba, Oka Akoko.
The former African Footballer of the year, Ikpeba and the other scouts are expected to use his attendance at the final match slated for Friday 2nd August, 2024, to discover and encourage young talented footballers in Ondo State.
Victor Ikpeba Ex-Super Eagles Player, Olympic Gold Medallist and former African Footballer of the year is coming to Ondo State with renowned Football Scouts namely; Dapo Sotuminu, Paul Ojo and Attah Udia.
And part of the visit, Ikpeba and the scouts, are expected to engage media and visit to some selected media houses and they are expected to pay a courtesy visit on the State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The Akogun football competition which started 7years ago, is being singlehandedly sponsored by Hon Omole who is also the Chairman of the 9th Ondo State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Sports and Youth Development.
Speaking on the competition, Akogun Omole said the discovered talented products of the previous editions of the Competition are already plying their trades in various football clubs across the the country and beyond; “It’s my way of empowering the Youths and keeping them busy.”
The former lawmaker was honoured with award of “the Pillar Of Sports and Youth Development”, by Oka Akoko community last year for his youth empowerment.
Other ex-Super Eagles players who had been in Ondo State for the previous editions of Akogun Football Competition included; Ben Iroha, Dosu Joseph, Mutiu Adepoju and a former Super Eagles Goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, among.
