Basking in the euphoria of his birthday, the Transition Chairman of Ondo Northwest LCDA, Honourable Onidare Sunday Bukunmi (OSB), marked his day in a unique and uncommon way by succouring patients at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo (UNIMEDTH), on Wednesday, 9th August 2024.
The Ondo Northwest LCDA Chairman, who provided financial support to cover the medical bills of patients at the hospital, described the gesture as an act of gratitude for life and good health.
He noted that his birthdays are typically an opportunity to connect with children, women, youths, and the less privileged in society, and this year was no exception.
This was contained in a statement signed by Henry Afolabi Victor, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Hon. Onidare Sunday Bukunmi (OSB).
Honourable Bukunmi, accompanied by his team, was warmly welcomed by Dr Akinbodewa Akinwunmi, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), who represented the hospital’s management.
During the visit, Honourable Bukunmi provided financial support to all patients in the wards he toured and also paid the medical bills of patients undergoing dialysis and others with severe medical conditions, ensuring that those who had overstayed at the hospital due to financial constraints could be discharged immediately.
Dr Akinbodewa Akinwunmi, who spoke on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Dr Gbala Michael O., expressed deep appreciation for the Transition Chairman’s philanthropic gesture.
He highlighted the positive impact of such support on the patients and the entire hospital community, urging other well-meaning individuals in society to prioritise the welfare of hospital patients.
Dr Akinwunmi also emphasised the financial challenges faced by many patients, which hinder their access to necessary treatments and medications.
He, however, commended the teaching hospital’s significant achievements in both academic and medical fields, praising the contributions of the university and its graduates to research and medical practice in the nation.
He called for increased funding to support research and the acquisition of modern equipment to further enhance the efficiency of medical care.
The tour, led by Dr Akinwunmi, took Honourable Bukunmi and his team through various hospital wards, including the Radiological Ward, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Ward, Neo-Natal Ward (NICU), Orthopaedic Ward, Postnatal Ward, Paediatric Ward, Antenatal Ward, Paediatric Surgery Ward, Children’s Emergency Ward, and the Male and Female Surgical Wards.
The hospital management team present during the visit included the Chief Medical Director, Dr Gbala Michael O., Director of Administration, Mr Esan-Titus Olaboboye, and Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacist Adegoke Adeyemi, among others.
